New members of all ages and abilities are welcome. Young learners, typically aged 6 or younger, are catered for in our swimming teaching programme - please contact Janet Hopkins for further details or use our Online Enquiry Form. After completing a course of lessons and reaching the required standard swimmers can then enter the club's squad system if they wish.More competent swimmers can apply to enter the club directly. Please contact one of the coaches or a committee member for more details or use our Online Enquiry Form. Please also bear in mind that Newbury District Swimming Club is not limited to young competitive swimmers - although they do form the bulk of the 200+ membership. We also cater for competitive masters swimmers (25 year old plus) as well as reasonably competent adult swimmers who would like to swim better. If you have just joined NDSC, or are about to, or are considering doing so, please take a look at Information for new Members. This will give you some idea of swimming club activities and how the club is organised. Hope to see you soon !!! |

The Clubs aim is to encourage the development of swimming in the Newbury district. The club was founded in 1948 (also See Club History ) and is affiliated to the Southern Counties District of the Amateur Swimming Association. The club operates teaching programmes for younger swimmers. After reaching the required standard, swimmers can join the club and train within a squad system. Swimmers typically train between twice and nine times a week dependent upon age and ability. The Club trains at Northcroft Leisure Centre, Kennet Pool in Thatcham, Hungerford Leisure Centre as well as school pools at St Bartholomew's Newbury and Downe House at Cold Ash. The club encourages excellence in swimming at all standards by participating in a number of swimming leagues at differing levels and by hosting annually its own Open Meet open to swimming club members from all over Southern England and Wales (in 1998 over 200 swimmers competed in over 700 races). It also holds a number of club gala’s limited to members of the club. The Club has a teaching programme for children aged, typically, 5 years to 10 years old. At any moment approximately 90 children are enrolled in our teaching programme. The club then operates a fully coached squad training system including the chance to participate in competition all over the country. In total 30 hours of pool time is currently offered plus teaching programmes. The teaching programme is open to all children and the club is open to anybody meeting the required standard. The club gives recreational sports facilities to over 200 members - of whom 90% are under 16 years old. The ‘ average’ swimmer swims two to three hours weekly. This gives children a competence at a sport that will last them all their life, it gives them a chance to excel and a great outside interest. We actively compete 30 weekends a year at various levels of competition - this gives all swimmers the chance to develop their swimming skills. We provide full swim coaching to all members of the club. [Back To Top] |
