Boys Club Captain

Jacob Glanville

Hi, I am Jacob Glanville and I am your boys senior club captain.

I’m 16 years old, go to St Bart’s School and am in year 12, lower sixth form. I have been swimming at Newbury since I was 11 (I started late!) and I’m currently in the A squad.

My hobbies besides swimming are art and drawing, watching films and using my computer. I’m studying for English Lit, Art, Biology and History A levels at school.

My favourite strokes are Front crawl and Fly and I enjoy breast stroke but I absolutely hate backstroke. My best stroke is also my favourite; Freestyle, I’m more of a sprinter than a long distance swimmer, distance is my weakness.

I have taken part in counties four times so far, and I have qualified for the Regional’s (districts) in the last three years. I am aiming to qualify for the Nationals this season. I have been chosen for the National League (Speedo as was) team for the last 3 years and I swim at many meets with the club.

I would like  to encourage and support my club mates in achieving your own success and goals and would be happy to provide help and advice.

Thanks for voting for me.

Jacob

Girls Club Captain

 Emily Herbert

Hello there,

My name is Emily Herbert and I am your senior captain for 2009/2010. I am 18 years old and have been at the club for Newbury District Swimming Club for 11 years. I am currently in ‘A’ squad and swim 6 times a week.  I have finished my A level photography at Kennet School and I am at Basingstoke College of Technology year 2 studying a National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science. I also assist young children to swim at Greenacres Leisure Centre which I love and work at Sainsbury’s part time.

I feel like my swimming has improved this year. I came in the top six at the county championships in my 100m and 200m Breaststroke. My target is to hopefully reach the Regionals this year and to continue on getting personal bests.

I would love to help or encourage anyone with their swimming and any issues if necessary I would put forward to the committee or coaches. I will always support the club and be available at the National Leagues, internal and external competitions.  Thanks for voting me your club captain and I hope I do a great job.

Remember believe in yourself and you will achieve. Enjoy your time swimming.

Kind regards,

Emily J

Boys Junior Captain

Lucas Shreiber

Hi, my name is Lucas Schreiber (most people call me Luc).  I have been swimming for four years and I’m now in B1 squad.  My younger sister Natalia is in Cruisers.  I’m in year eight at St. John’s school in Marlborough.

I like sport and I obviously love swimming.  I try to attend as many competitions as I can.  My first gala was the sprints gala and my best place was 5th!  I started swimming in Sprinters when I was eight and it was very tiring.  My favourite stroke is backstroke.  My favourite swim moment was when I got my first county time which was fifty meters freestyle!  This year I hope to get a Southeast Regional time.  I would really like to be an asset in helping younger swimmers because I know how tough it can be if you are training a lot and it takes a while to get to the next level, or if you’ve had to stop swimming for a little while and find getting into training again hard.  If you have any problems just ask me and Paige.  I wish everyone good luck this year and I hope we all get PB’s and loads of medals.

Have fun.  Work hard. Swim fast!!!

Girls Junior Captain

   Paige Pope

Hi my name is Paige Pope and I’m the junior club captain for 2009/2010 yippee!  I am 12 years old and I am in year 8 at St. Bart’s.  My sister Millie is 9 years old and also swims at the club and is a member of Challengers.  I have been swimming at Newbury for 2 years and am currently in B1 squad but attend some A sessions.

When I’m not swimming I like to spend my time dancing, running, playing lacrosse and being with my friends.  My favourite subjects at school are P.E, English and Drama.

I qualified for the Counties this year and came away with 4 medals. I don’t really have a favourite stroke so my favourite event would be any of the IM distances (that’s what most of my medals are for!). I prefer long distances to sprints because I have a lot of stamina.  My goal this year is to compete in the regionals.

I hope that you feel that Jacob, Emily, Luc and I can help support you in achieving the best that you can!

Happy swimming J

Paige x
